STR storage facilities are located in Oak Ridge (TN) adjacent to a large U.S. Department of Energy site. The government chose this site nearly 60 years ago because of its low risk of threats from natural disasters. In addition to being safe and secure, the area is easily accessed by six major interstate highways, eight interstate spurs, three major railroad lines, five major regional airports with international service from Nashville and Memphis, barge traffic, and five foreign-trade zones.
